Harness Knot

This knot is used by seamen in making knots in a towline because it can be easily tied and untied and does not seriously weaken the rope.

To Tie a Harness Knot:

Make a simple slip knot, drawing the loop through only a short distance.

The lower part of the loop x is then passed between the bight and the side of the loop as indicated by the arrow in photo one.

In drawing up the knot it is necessary to hold it firmly against some object and pull of the part of the loop y in the direction indicated by the arrow.
